El 25 de junio de 1895 Beatson realiz\u00f3 la primera salpingooforectom\u00eda bilateral a una joven con c\u00e1ncer de mama recurrente inoperable. La paciente tuvo una recuperaci\u00f3n satisfactoria y todos los signos de enfermedad locorregional desaparecieron en 8 meses.
